MEETINGS INFORMATION CONNECTIVITY ADVOCACY
We provide members with an organizational platform to:
- Meet and share information;
- Hear from and engage industry experts;
- Discuss best practices about the real estate investment management business and real estate markets broadly.
- Obtain industry information tailored to the needs of investment managers; and,
- Shape federal policies that matter most to the industry.
MEETINGS
NAREIM meetings allow members to address pertinent industry issues and benchmark the performance of their company with others and the industry as a whole.
The primary members of our organization, meaning the CEOs, COOs or equivalent senior managers of our member companies, attend two meetings per year exclusively for them.
Other senior officers are able to attend a series of interactive educational issue forums oriented toward specific management or operational lines of a company. The forums provide not only an in-depth educational opportunity, but also an excellent chance for networking and benchmarking.
All meetings are conducted in a group discussion format that fosters a candid dialogue among participants. This leads to interactive discussions of highly relevant issues that senior managers confront in their day-to-day professional life.
Attendance at all meetings is limited to association members. No service providers, vendors, lenders or investors attend to ensure that conversations are candid and focused on real estate investment management.
The focus and nature of these members-only exchanges in so many ways defines who we are and what we foster: A noncompetitive environment where members can speak freely and share openly about the challenges and opportunities facing real estate investment managers.
CONNECTING WITH INDUSTRY PEERS
The valuable interconnectivity achieved by members at our meetings is extended through our state-of-the-art website. The site allows members to easily search contact information of other members and stay in touch between meetings. It also allows members through a “chat room” to engage in real-time discussions with a broad audience on relevant topics.
INDUSTRY INFORMATION AND TOOLS
The association also sponsors and provides to members important surveys: the Compensation Survey; the Risk Management Survey; and the Investment Management Benchmark Survey, which examines, among other things, company staffing loads and ratios, departmental costs, fees and revenues.
All of these surveys have become essential tools of the real estate investment management trade; they deliver valuable perspective and help answer parent companies’ as well as investment managers’ desire to know “How are we doing relative to the industry?” (These surveys, distributed for free to association members, are available for purchase by non-members.) We also conduct single-issue surveys of the broader membership, as requested by a specific member. Survey topics are open to change to best meet the needs of members.
WASHINGTON ADVOCACY
We are headquartered in Washington, D.C. to give the organization the presence the industry needs with lawmakers who decide policies that impact and shape the real estate industry broadly and investment managers specifically. We establish and maintain relationships with key lawmakers and educate them about the real estate investment management industry and the benefits real estate investment managers provide to investors and the U.S. economy.
MANAGING IN TODAY’S ECONOMIC CLIMATE
The National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers helps industry professionals succeed no matter the real estate or macroeconomic climate.
In the current economic environment, real estate investment managers face many challenges. We are helping them respond to these challenges and are guiding policymakers on the necessary steps to address the liquidity crisis for commercial real estate. Much is at stake for managers and investors across the board.
The National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers provides a variety of benefits, services and opportunities to advance the profession and the performance of real estate investment managers.
