The National Association of Real Estate Managers was founded in 1990 to provide the means for its members to meet in a non-competitive environment and have a candid dialogue on the challenges and opportunities in our industry on a timely basis.
This is primarily accomplished through NAREIM's Discussion Forums, which focus on operational and strategic issues and provide exposure to a variety of viewpoints from Senior Level Officers who have responsibility for particular disciplines. NAREIM's programs are highly interactive and highlight key issues on which strategic thinking is currently being examined. Each forum consists of an accessible number of senior level officers who have similar responsibilities and provides an excellent opportunity for networking and self-improvement. A goal of NAREIM's is to help update the knowledge of our members and the quality of service they provide and give them a broad sense of the industry.
Although the source of capital is different among our members, they are all involved with creating value through acquisition, asset/property management, financial engineering, development and market-timed exit strategies. There is a common interest in the status of the marketplace and the changes in the social, technological and global environment.
Member networking, that is getting to know each other better, improves trust, understanding, respect and friendship and makes future negotiations within the industry smoother and more efficient.
In addition to the Forums, NAREIM publishes a very well-received Real Estate Total Compensation Survey, which the NAREIM Board has authorized to sell to non-participants for $5,000 per copy. NAREIM has also committed to work with Kingsley and Associates to create an operational benchmark survey designed to address issues of staffing loads and ratios, departmental costs, fees and revenues. The survey will help answer both the parent companies as well as the investment managers desire to know "How are we doing relative to the industry?"
Membership fees, scheduled to break-even and provide minimum reserves, include a $2,500 (U.S. Funds) initiation fee (one-time charge) and an annual $7,000 (U.S. Funds) corporate membership fee. The membership fee is initially pro-rated to the month of membership. The only charge for Forums is $325 per person to help cover about 90% of the cost of food and beverages, audio-visual, and outside speakers. The Senior Executive Officer Strategic Issues Forum carries a $500 fee with no charge for spouses or significant others. The charge for the Annual Symposium is $800 for the first Senior Officer and $500 for each additional officer attending (no charge for spouses and significant others).
NAREIM is an Association that has continued to attract quality real estate investment management companies because of the benefits it provides to its members.
