Don't Miss the NAREIM Year in Review

In the past 12 months, NAREIM members worked together to solve some of real estate investment management’s most pressing business challenges.

Through function and topic specific meetings, organizational benchmarking, and content for peer-led discussion and best practice sharing, NAREIM members were able to dive deep into solutions, policies and strategies fundamental to their business growth.

Thank you to NAREIM’s members, executive and planning committees for their hard work in the past 12 months, through September 30, 2025.

What We Offer

Informative meetings

NAREIM represents several functional areas within the real estate investment management firm, providing in-person and virtual connections for each group through the year.

  • The functional areas covered include: Architecture, Engineering & Development; Asset Management; Capital Raising & Investor Relations; Data & Information Management; Executive Officer; Legal, Compliance & Risk; Portfolio Management; Sustainability; Talent Management. Additionally, NAREIM hosts a DEI program in the form of the Hispanic Real Estate Roundtable.

NAREIM meetings are focused on small group, peer-to-peer networking where members share - openly and candidly - what is working and what is not working within their organizations. We embrace roundtables for deep interaction and to help build lasting relationships among peers.

A Diverse Member Network

NAREIM members represent a diverse group of real estate investment management professionals, organizations and strategies. Collectively, they represent more than $3tn of gross AUM, diversified across debt and equity, risk spectrum and property type.

And it is employees of NAREIM member firms who provide the most critical component of NAREIM's values: our indepth, interactive meetings.

Across functional groups, individual members work with their peers on committees to develop topics that are not only relevant and timely, but provide a depth of discussion not seen elsewhere in our industry.

"It wasn't like past conferences I've been to where you just sit still and get lectured to for hours on end. Kudos to NAREIM for facilitating such a constructive and interactive environment."

Data & Information Management Meeting

"You can do ad hoc surveys among a few peers, but to have a report this comprehensive and this detailed is unique."

Compensation Survey

"The relatively small and focused group makes it easy to develop connections with peers—enabling more time for meaningful dialogue, discussion, and discovery regarding issues that are relevant to me.”

Executive Officer Meeting

Insightful Research

Each year, NAREIM produces four benchmarking surveys, including:

  • Compensation: 400+ pages of individual position compensation reports, plus annual trends relating to base, bonus, long-term incentives, promote/carry, co-investment and benefits. In collaboration with Ferguson Partners.

  • Global Management: 65+ data points covering financial & EBITDA metrics, governance, revenue and expense ratios and organizational, staffing and workload metrics. Broken down by AUM and risk strategy. In collaboration with Ferguson Partners.

  • Global Workforce: 140+ pages of employee demographics broken down by gender, ethnicity, seniority and job functions, for real estate investment management, across US, Canada, Europe and Asia, as well as DEI program practices. In collaboration with 19 CRE associations and Ferguson Partners.

  • Defined Contribution: DC capital flows for dedicated private real estate strategies, as well as liquidity, structures and staffing metrics. In collaboration with the DC Real Estate Council, NCREIF and PREA.

NAREIM research is not for sale. Research is available to participating NAREIM members only.

Member Pulse Surveys

NAREIM members don’t just participate in industry research, they help shape it. One of the most distinctive benefits of membership is the ability to pitch an idea for a member survey on the issues most pressing to a member's business and the industry at large.

Whether it’s strategies for returning to the office, technology budgets, internship and analyst programs, or captive insurance, past member-initiated surveys have uncovered real-time insights across a wide spectrum of operating and investment challenges.

By proposing pulse surveys, our members set the agenda on the questions that matter most to them and their peers.

Student Programs

NAREIM runs two student programs bringing together member firms and graduate and undergraduate students: The Jeff Barclay Fellows and the Resume Book.

Jeff Barclay Fellows

Named after the late Jeff Barclay, former NAREIM chairman, CIO of Clarion Partners and Head of Goldman Sachs' real estate group, the NAREIM Jeff Barclay Fellows award is given to five outstanding graduate students each year. The program affords a unique learning and networking opportunity to attend the Executive Officer meeting in September, as well as other NAREIM functional group meetings throughout the year.

Resume Book

Each year, NAREIM aggregates the resumes of undergraduate and graduate students studying real estate or with a strong business interest in real estate from across the US. In 2024, almost 800 undergraduate and graduate students participated from 92 schools across the US.
