NAREIM is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy.

To help you understand how NAREIM protects your personal information, this notice describes NAREIM's current privacy policy and practices. NAREIM may change this policy from time to time so please check this page occasionally to ensure that you’re happy with any changes. This privacy policy sets out how NAREIM uses and protects any information that you provide or that is gathered during the course of providing client services.

Who are we?

NAREIM is a non-profit 501c(6) industry association focused on the real estate investment management industry. NAREIM (the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers) is incorporated in Delaware and registered in New Jersey.

What we collect

The majority of our clients are corporate entities and data about entities is not personal data.

​

But NAREIM does process personal data of company employees, representatives and other personal data clients provide to us, or allow us to collect on their behalf, while providing client services. This includes contact information and any other personal data that is relevant to or necessary for NAREIM to deliver its services. NAREIM also processes personal data to assist in building relationships. This includes name, contact information and job title and may also include education information, work history and gender.

NAREIM collects and uses this information to provide services and for other legitimate business interests. For example, NAREIM uses contact details to send communications. You can update your communication preferences by clicking on the link at the bottom of one of our marketing emails or contacting Zoe Hughes at zhughes@nareim.org.

NAREIM may also obtain personal data from third-party sources in connection with providing services to clients and general internet searches. Such third-party information sometimes contains personal data. NAREIM may use this information to perform relevant due diligence.

NAREIM may collect the following personal identifying information:

  • Name and contact information, such as email, telephone and physical address

  • Employment position and job title

  • Investment objectives and experience, and information regarding existing investments and vehicles

  • Financial information for the payment of membership dues and meetings

  • Photographs taken at NAREIM events

Why NAREIM collects personal information

NAREIM may collect the information to serve your organization, provide customer service, monitor and improve our relationships with you and comply with legal and regulatory requirements.

NAREIM requires this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:

  • Comply with legal obligations and professional responsibilities;

  • Perform contracts and conduct due diligence prior to entering into a contract;

  • Pursue legitimate interests of:

    • Delivering the best possible service to our members

    • Keeping individuals informed of developments in NAREIM and the markets

    • Business development and general marketing

    • Providing you with information on our services, and

    • Ensuring we build and maintain a good working relationship with you and potential new members.

 

Unless otherwise indicated, you should assume that we require the personal data for business and/or compliance purposes. To the extent that NAREIM does rely on consent to process your personal data, NAREIMwill contact you to obtain this consent. You have the right to withdraw this consent at any time.

What NAREIM does with the information we gather

Keeping your information secure is one of NAREIM's most important responsibilities. NAREIM never sells your personally identifiable information.

 

NAREIM does engage certain trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services, including conducting NAREIM's benchmarking research and publishing its annual magazine. NAREIM may share your personal information with these third parties, but only to the extend necessary to perform these functions and provide such services. NAREIM also requires these third parties to maintain the privacy and security of the personal information they process on its behalf. NAREIM's trusted third parties include:

  • Ferguson Partners, relating to NAREIM's Compensation, DEI and Global Management Surveys

  • Institutional Real Estate Investing (IREI), relating to the production and distribution of Dialogues magazine

NAREIM may provide information to regulatory authorities and law enforcement officials in accordance with applicable law or to others when it believe in good faith that the law requires it. In addition, NAREIM may disclose this information to its professional advisors such as lawyers, accountants, auditors and consultants in connection with facilitating services to you.

Controlling and accessing your personal information

You may choose to restrict the collection or use of your personal information in the following ways:

  • If you have previously agreed to NAREIM using your personal information, such as signing up for NAREIM membership and meetings or the NAREIM newsletter, you may change your mind at any time by clicking the opt-button on emails and emailing us at zhughes@nareim.org.

  • You may request details of personal information which NAREIM holds about you under the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA) and the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of 2018. If you would like a copy of the information held on you please email zhughes@nareim.org.

 

Security

NAREIM is committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure, NAREIM has put in place suitable electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information it collects.

How NAREIM uses cookies

A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer’s hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps analyze web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. The web application can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences.

NAREIM uses traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps us analyze data about webpage traffic and improve NAREIM's website in order to tailor it to customer needs. NAREIM only uses this information for statistical analysis purposes.

Photograph use and acceptance

Attendees to NAREIM meetings agree to irrevocably grant to NAREIM and NAREIM's assigns, licensees, and successors the right to use their image and name in all forms and media including composite or modified representations for all purposes, including advertising, trade or any commercial purpose throughout the world and in perpetuity. Attendees waive the right to inspect or approve versions of their image used for publication or any written copy that may be used in connection with the images. Attendees to NAREIM meetings also release NAREIM and NAREIM's assigns, licensees, and successors from any claims that may arise regarding the use of their image, including any claims of defamation, invasion of privacy, or infringement of moral rights, rights of publicity, or copyright. NAREIM is permitted, although not obligated, to include the attendee's name as a credit in connection with the image.

event terms & Conditions

By registering for NAREIM events, you accept the following terms and conditions:

​

In consideration of being permitted to enter and remain at a meeting hosted by NAREIM (the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers), a non-profit 501c(6) industry association, the individual specified on the registration (the "attendee") and their heirs, assigns, executors, administrators, next of kin, and other persons acting or purporting to act on the attendee's behalf, hereby acknowledge and agree to the terms below by submitting their registration to NAREIM events.

​

1.     Admittance: NAREIM meetings are for the benefit of NAREIM members. By registering for the event, attendees confirm their employer is a NAREIM member or they are an invited guest of NAREIM. NAREIM reserves the right to cancel any registration at any time without explanation. NAREIM also reserves the right to refuse admittance to or expel from the conference anyone that NAREIM determines is behaving in a manner that could be disruptive to the event or pose any danger to any other attendee. The attendee consents and agrees that in such event, the attendee nor the attendee's employer, shall not be entitled to a refund of any portion of amounts paid. Breach of any of the terms herein shall entitle NAREIM to all available legal remedies.

​

2.     Acknowledgements of Covid-19 & other risks: Attendees fully understand and acknowledge the risks associated with attending events following the Covid-19 pandemic, including but not limited to exposure to the virus and its potential consequences. An attendee's registration to a NAREIM meeting is entirely at the attendee's own risk.

​

3.     Assumption of risks, hazards, and dangers: Attendees assume all risks, hazards, and dangers related to entry into, and presence in, at, and around the venue and event, including but not limited to exposure to communicable diseases (including Covid-19), sickness, personal injury, disability, other short-term or long-term health effects, and/or death.

​

4.     Release and waiver: Attendees hereby release, waive, and discharge NAREIM from any and all claims that attendees, the attendee's employer or any related persons may have against NAREIM, arising from or related to any risks, hazards, and dangers described in this agreement.

​

5.     Limitations on assumption of risk and release of liability: This agreement does not release liability for instances of gross negligence, reckless conduct, willful/wanton conduct, or intentional acts.

​

6.     Safety protocols: An attendee's admission to the event, the event venue and attendance at the event are subject to any health and safety protocols put in place by relevant authorities. Failure to comply with safety protocols may result in denial of entry or expulsion from the event.

​

7.     Disclosure of personal health information: Attendees acknowledge that we may disclose your personal health information to public health authorities if compelled or required by law.

​

8.     Insurance: It is the responsibility of attendees to arrange appropriate personal insurance in connection with their attendance at the event.

​

9.     Payment: Payment terms and conditions are as specified during the registration process.

​

10. Event amendments and disclaimer: NAREIM reserves the right to make changes to the event without notice and without liability to attendees.

 

11. Speakers, attendees: Views expressed by any attendee, speaker, NAREIM member, exhibitor or sponsor at the event are their own, and NAREIM shall not be liable for them.

​

12. 13. Personal information: An attendee's personal information may be processed and shared in accordance with our privacy policy, please see above for the full privacy policy.

14. Cancellation policy: In the event of cancellation, NAREIM will honor a full refund of the registration fee, except where a hotel room under the NAREIM room block has also been booked by the member. NAREIM will work with the member to reallocate the room to other NAREIM members and attendees. However, if the room cannot be reallocated NAREIM will be charged for that room. If rooms cannot be reallocated to other members, NAREIM reserves the right to deduct the cost of the room from the meeting registration fee. Any remaining balance will then be issued as the refund.

15. Force majeure: NAREIM shall not be liable for any delay or failure in performance due to circumstances beyond NAREIM's control.

​

16. Governing law: This agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the state of New Jersey, United States.

​

17. Severability and waiver: If any provision of this agreement is deemed invalid, the remaining provisions shall remain valid. All waivers must be made in writing.

​

By registering for any NAREIM event, attendees acknowledge they have read and understood all of the terms of this

agreement and that they are voluntarily giving up substantial legal rights, including the right to sue NAREIM

​

NAREIM does not endorse or recommend employers, and a posting does not constitute an endorsement or recommendation. NAREIM explicitly makes no representations or guarantees about job listings or the accuracy of the information provided by the employer. NAREIM is not responsible for safety, wages, working conditions, or any other aspect of employment without limitation. It is the responsibility of job candidates to perform due diligence in researching employers when applying for or accepting employment and to thoroughly research the facts and reputation of each organization to which they are applying.

All users of the NAREIM Jobs Board represent and agree that they will indemnify NAREIM against any and all liabilities, costs and expenses, including attorneys’ fees, relative to any claim made against NAREIM by any person or entity that is related in any way or arising out of use of the NAREIM Jobs Board.


NAREIM is not liable for any damages whatsoever resulting from the use or inability to use the NAREIM Jobs Board and material, whether based on warranty, contract, tort, or any other legal theory. All users of the NAREIM Jobs Board agree to NAREIM's Privacy Policy, referenced above, in full.
