NAREIM Member Survey results: Capital Raising & IR Professional Development

Eight out of 10 survey respondents have had a career in investment management for more than 10 years, while seven out of 10 people have been in real estate investment management specifically for more than a decade, according to the latest NAREIM member survey, as part of the Capital Raising & IR meeting professional development workshop.
The survey, the latest in a series of NAREIM member pulse reports covering topics of concern for member firms, revealed that over that career period, 47% of members have worked for at least two to three different firms.
Seven out of 10 real estate investment managers rely on recruitment as the main method in finding new hires. When asked about team specifics, more than half of firms noted having between two to five business development employees, and a dedicated consultant relations person at the firm.

Other highlights from the Survey included:
65% of surveyed firms are selling both open-end and close-end funds.
53% of respondents manage a business development or IR team with more than two direct reports.
47% of real estate investment managers collaborate with a generalist sales force to source prospects and client relationships.
41% of firms are currently investing and/or managing three to five active strategies.
NAREIM Member Surveys
NAREIM regularly conducts member surveys to help member firms understand organizational policies and strategies of peers. Seventeen organizations participated in the Capital Raising & IR professional development member survey, conducted between October 24 and November 13, 2023.
