NAREIM welcomes three new board members from AEW, CBRE IM and Dermody

NAREIM Board Membership

November 2, 2023

The NAREIM Board of Directors has appointed three new members, following approval during the annual meeting in September. A warm welcome goes to:

  • Michael Byrne, Chief Investment Officer, AEW Capital Management

  • Julie Ingersoll, CIO, Americas Direct RE, CBRE Investment Management

  • Kathy Briscoe, Chief Capital Officer, Dermody Properties

All three new members said they were proud to be part of the NAREIM mission, which brings investment managers together to share and learn about business and organizational challenges within real estate investment management - and to understand how to advance innovation within the business and individual firms.

Through benchmarking and peer-to-peer meetings, NAREIM "promotes innovation and best practices that ultimately serve investors", said Ingersoll. For Briscoe and Byrne, NAREIM was an organization they both found valuable. "I have taken NAREIM with me to every company I have worked since my first job in real estate... it [is] so beneficial," said Briscoe.

NAREIM is also proud to announce additional changes to the Board and Membership Committee.

  • Tim Kessler, Global COO of LaSalle Investment Management, has been appointed NAREIM Treasurer for the next two years.

  • David Donato, COO of Continental Realty Corporation, has been appointed Chair of the NAREIM Membership Committee for the next two years.

Special thanks go to four NAREIM board members who stepped down this year.

  • Ryan Kraunch, Executive Managing Director of Affinius Capital, served as Chair of the NAREIM Board and has been a key member of the board since 2015 helping steer NAREIM through Covid and developing NAREIM’s membership strategy and mission post-pandemic.

  • Jeff Newman, President of Karney Properties, served as NAREIM Treasurer between 2021 and 2023, having joined the board in 2019. Jeff helped build NAREIM’s reserves and worked with NAREIM’s staff to put in place strong financial controls that will support the association for years to come.

  • John Ockerbloom, Head of US Real Estate at Barings Real Estate Advisors and Bobby Bransfield, Head of Fund Management at Prologis, served as directors on the NAREIM Board between 2020 and 2023, and were critical in developing NAREIM’s strategy on recruitment, retention and engagement.

NAREIM CEO Zoe Hughes said: “We cannot thank Ryan, Jeff, John and Bobby enough for all their support and hard work in developing NAREIM’s vision in the wake of the pandemic. Associations throughout the industry underwent a seismic shift in 2020 – and NAREIM came out stronger thanks to the leadership, insights and passion of our Board.

“We are so excited to continue that work by welcoming Michael, Julie and Kathy to the Board. Board members play a fundamental role in developing the long-term strategy of non-profits and for real estate investment managers there are some exciting opportunities and challenges ahead. We look forward to working with all our Board members on developing NAREIM’s vision for the next 30 years.”

The NAREIM Board of Directors is led by:

  • Chair Josh Myerberg, Managing Director of Morgan Stanley Real Estate and Vice-Chair Kristin Renaudin, CFO of Stockbridge Capital.

  • Members also include: Michael Bryne, AEW Capital; Julie Ingersoll, CBRE IM; Kathy Briscoe, Dermody Properties; Reisa Bryan, CEO of Paths Management (an affiliate of Nuveen Real Estate); Jeff Giller, Head of Real Estate, StepStone Group and Tiffany Gherlone, Head of Research & Strategy, UBS Realty.

Michael Byrne of AEW Capital said: “I am very happy to be joining the NAREIM Board.  It is an important organization for the real estate industry and I look forward to working with Zoe Hughes and the rest of the NAREIM team to continue focusing the conversation on the future of our industry”.

Kathy Briscoe of Dermody Properties said: “I am thrilled to be appointed to the NAREIM Board, and I have greatly benefited from my involvement in the organization over the last 30+ years, from its inception in 1990.  Basically I have taken the organization with me to every company I have worked since my first job in real estate because I find it so beneficial.  I am honored to be a part of the leadership.”
